The Air France Foundation has teamed up with the Léo Lagrange Federation to support the new “Carbon Scol’ERE France” programme for positive environmental education
On 19 November 2020, the Air France Foundation and the Léo Lagrange Federation signed a partnership agreement demonstrating their complementary values and actions in supporting the development of the “Carbon Scol’ERE France” environmental education programme in the Paris region. This original eco-citizen project was launched by the Léo Lagrange Federation in October and is currently being rolled out in the Paris region, before being extended to the whole of France as from January 2021. The Air France Foundation’s financial support will cover the cost of the workshops organized in some twenty elementary schools in municipalities close to Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly airports. Through this partnership and in their active commitment to education and the environment, these two players are working to enable young people and their families to adopt new sustainable behaviours and actions on a daily basis.
The Air France Foundation and Léo Lagrange Federation, both actively involved in the area of education, share strong values and a common ambition to promote commitment to eco-responsible behaviour, by giving people, particularly the young generation, a central place.
The Léo Lagrange Federation, a popular education movement founded in 1950, relies on the skills of thousands of employees and volunteers across the country for carrying out actions in schools, children’s leisure centres and training centres, social and cultural centres, etc. As a player in the social economy, it offers socio-cultural activities, vocational training and social rehabilitation, vacation packages and educational sports. Through the launch of the “Carbon Scol’ERE France” programme, the Léo Lagrange Federation is currently addressing the issue of ecology and environmental protection through prevention and education.
Since its creation in 1992, the Air France Foundation has been financing and supporting associations in their educational projects. For many years, environmental issues have been a focus of its commitment. It is in this sense that it approached the Léo Lagrange Federation to support the development of the “Carbon Scol’ERE France” programme in the Paris region.
“We have been supporting education-related projects for 28 years. This year, the Foundation has financed 36 education projects worldwide and we wanted to support one in France, dedicated to education and the environment. Our decision to work with the Léo Lagrange Federation in launching the “Carbon Scol’ERE France” programme ties in perfectly with this approach. This innovative programme that originated in the Province of Quebec (Canada) offers the opportunity to set challenges aimed at changing mentalities and behaviour. We wanted to be present from the start of the project, to co-construct this story and create a real link with the Federation. This partnership is first and foremost a human adventure.” explains Cécile Vic, Managing Director, Air France Foundation.

Around twenty schools financed in municipalities close to Roissy and Orly airports in 2021
The partnership agreement between the two players aims to develop this educational programme in the Paris region. The Air France Foundation’s financial aid amounting to €35,000 will cover the cost of launching workshops in elementary schools in 4 municipalities – Roissy-en-France, Sarcelles, Tremblay en France and Juvisy sur Orge. In total, around twenty school classes are concerned and over 500 pupils will be able to make use of the educational tools, take part in educational challenges with their families and participate in workshops, proposed during school time by Léo Lagrange Federation coordinators.

“Carbone Scol’ERE France”, an eco-citizen program unique in France
"Carbone Scol'ERE France" is a turnkey educational programme for elementary schools that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and positively supports the adoption of eco-responsible actions on a daily basis. The general objective led by the Léo Lagrange Federation is to facilitate and support actions taken by young people and their families. To do this, the programme relies on a dedicated digital platform and a series of 5 educational workshops of 2 hours, during school time, spread over a period of 3 to 5 months.
A toolbox is also available for students to help them better understand current environmental issues, to take action to implement practical and concrete solutions, but also for them to become actively involved.
Developed in Quebec 10 years ago by the Coop FA, the Carbone Scol'ERE programme has given rise to more than 1,200 classroom workshops in 2019, helping over 5,300 young people. Currently being tested in 45 classes of CM1 and CM2 (4th and 5th Grade), from 7 academies, in Amiens, Besançon, Dijon, Grenoble, Lille, Lyon and Paris, the project will be extended to all French regions as from January. This educational programme has a great future of eco-citizen commitment and concrete actions to reduce our negative impact on the planet. Every little helps!
